Ruben Amorim's hard work to restore Man Utd to top spot

Nottingham Forest ‘s 3-2 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday night may not have come as a surprise, given that Nuno Espirito Santo ‘s side have undeniably been in better form and position than the Red Devils this season.

Meanwhile, winning at home against Manchester United was a result that Forest had not achieved in over 30 years and was the second defeat in the last five games of all competitions for new manager Ruben Amorim .

Since the start of the 2024-25 season, Amorim has won 16 of his 17 games in charge of his former club Sporting Lisbon before replacing Erik ten Hag at Manchester United in mid-month and, after the defeat at Forest, he admitted it was a very different job.

The 39-year-old Portuguese coach said: “I’ve been in this situation and worse with Sporting. At the beginning, the feeling for me is the same as it was before, but with Manchester United it’s different. You may only know Sporting in Portugal, but Manchester (United) has a lot of interest all over the world.”

“I had a difficult time at Sporting Lisbon and when you don’t have much experience in football, that’s what happens. We have to find a way to manage to do better and try to improve the ufabet https://ufabet999.app team. I think we can turn things around.”

Amorim is in his first difficult position since taking over from Ten Hag and he is now starting to see how much more this United team has to work on and how much they need to improve on almost every part of the pitch to become a team ready to challenge for success again.

In this game, Manchester United conceded another goal from a corner kick, similar to the game in which they lost 2-0 to Mikel Arteta ‘s Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the middle of last week, which is a major weakness that Amorim must improve as soon as possible.

United are currently on their worst start to a top-flight season in the club’s history after 15 games since 1986-87 and next face local rivals Manchester City next week before games against Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth.

Under normal circumstances, Amorim would be looking for a solution when the transfer window opens next month, but United are in a financial dilemma and would need to pay Erik ten Hag £21m in compensation and pay Sporting’s release clause to bring Amorim in as manager.

“We knew it would be tough, it would be a long journey, but we want to win every game because it is a big club. You feel it. When you lose a game it looks bad for everyone in the club. I understand that. I felt it after the first goal. We understand everything, but we have to keep improving,” Amorim added.
